1. Coffee & Roasting
How can I tell if my coffee is freshly roasted?
We are convinced: transparency is the basis for excellent taste. Therefore, each of our packages is marked with a precise roast date. Unlike the legally required best-before date (BBD), the roast date tells you exactly when the beans completed their refinement.
How to identify maximum freshness:
- The Peak Phase: Our coffees usually unfold their full aromatic potential one to four weeks after roasting.
- Degassing: For optimal enjoyment, we recommend enjoying the coffee from the 7th day after roasting, to give the profile time for controlled "degassing".
- Blooming: A clear swelling of the coffee grounds when poured (blooming) signals freshness and the optimal CO2 content.
Our advice: Prefer regular purchases of smaller quantities over long-term stocking. This way, you ensure that you always enjoy your coffee during its peak flavor phase.
What defines specialty coffee at B₂Coffee?
Specialty Coffee is the haute couture of the coffee world. While industrial coffee focuses on mass production, this segment represents only the top 5% to 10% of the global harvest. It is a protected promise of quality that we at B₂Coffee define through three unshakeable pillars:
1. The Excellence of the SCA Score
For us, quality is measurable. Certified experts (Q-Graders) evaluate coffees according to the strict system of the Specialty Coffee Association. While the threshold for specialty coffee is 80 points, our standard begins where others end: We exclusively curate lots with a score of 83 points and higher. This guarantees you an aromatic spectrum that is unique in its complexity.
2. Absolute Flawlessness
True luxury tolerates no imperfections. Unlike conventional goods, our coffee is completely free of primary defects. Every bean is selected with the utmost precision. The result is an unadulterated, pure taste experience without unpleasant bitterness – for exceptional digestibility and clarity in the cup.
3. Radical Transparency & Ethics
Behind every extraordinary coffee is a story. We guarantee complete traceability down to the individual parcel of the farm. For us, this proximity to the origin is the basis for true sustainability: We pay prices far above the market average to honor the artisanal work of the farmers and to preserve nature for future generations.
Our Conclusion: Specialty Coffee from B₂Coffee is not just a mere beverage, but an exclusive indulgence. We celebrate the full aromatic potential of the coffee cherry – for moments when only the best is good enough.
Origin – Where do the beans for B₂Coffee come from?
Quality is not by chance, but a decision that begins at the source. For B₂Coffee, we search worldwide for the rarest and most characterful green coffees. To ensure this uncompromising standard, our procurement relies on two exclusive pillars:
Direct Trade: A Partnership of Equals
True luxury means responsibility. Wherever possible, we maintain direct contact with the visionaries at the source – the coffee farmers and cooperatives. By eliminating unnecessary intermediaries, we guarantee that our appreciation reaches where it belongs. We pay prices that far exceed world market levels to sustainably support the passion and craftsmanship of the producers.
Curated Networks: Excellence through Expertise
In addition, we cooperate with a hand-picked network of specialized partners who share our uncompromising philosophy. These experts grant us access to strictly limited microlots and rare varieties that are hardly available on the open market. Together, we not only guarantee the highest ethical standards but also ecological cultivation methods that protect the biodiversity of their regions of origin.
Our Promise: We know the story behind every single bean – from the specific microclimate of the slope to the nuanced processing method. Thus, with every cup of B₂Coffee, you enjoy not just a beverage, but the result of an unbroken chain of respect and perfection.
The Art of Preparation – Which Coffee for Which Ritual?
The full potential of an exceptional bean is only unleashed when combined with the right method. To ensure the delicate nuances of our specialty coffees truly shine in your cup, we see roasting as a guide for your preparation:
The Philosophy Behind Our Roasting Profiles
- Light to Medium Roasts (Terroir-Focused):
These profiles are a tribute to the origin. They preserve the vibrant fruitiness and floral notes of the coffee cherry. We recommend these roasts for all filter methods (e.g., Hario V60, Chemex, or AeroPress) to experience the brilliance and clarity of the terroir unfiltered. - Dark Roasts (Intensity & Balance):
Here, origin and roasting artistry merge into a harmonious unity. Elegant dark chocolate notes, a velvety texture, and a profound sweetness are at the forefront. These roasts are ideal for portafilter machines (espresso) or automatic coffee makers – also perfect as a powerful base for coffee specialties with milk.
Our Expert Tip:
Every variety at B₂Coffee is unique. Therefore, on each product page, you will find a specific "Brew-Recipe" as well as detailed recommendations for the ideal grind size and water temperature. Because perfection lies in the details.
Preserving the Aroma – How do I store B₂Coffee?
Exceptional coffee is a living natural product. To ensure that the volatile aromas and complex structure of our specialty beans are preserved until the last cup, respectful handling is required. To minimize oxidation, consistently protect the beans from their four adversaries: oxygen, moisture, heat, and light.
Our recommendations for lasting freshness:
- Specialized Sealing: Our packaging is much more than just a wrapper. It features a technical aroma protection valve that allows gases to escape but prevents oxygen from entering. After removing the coffee, roll the bag tightly to expel any remaining air and seal it carefully.
- The Ideal Refuge: Choose a cool, dark place – such as a closed cupboard away from heat sources like the stove or espresso machine. Consistency is key to quality here.
- The Grinding Ritual: Freshness is irreplaceable. To unleash the full aromatic spectrum, the beans should only be ground immediately before extraction. As soon as the bean is broken, the aroma clock starts ticking.
- No Place in the Refrigerator: We strongly advise against storing coffee in the refrigerator. Coffee is hygroscopic; it would absorb moisture and foreign odors from its surroundings. Instead, treat your B₂Coffee like a precious olive oil or a fine wine: protected from light, dry, and at a moderate room temperature.
Did you know?
Even though coffee does not have a classic expiration date, it usually reaches its taste zenith within the first three months after roasting. Enjoy it while the aromas radiate their full brilliance.
